  16. <p>     Bill and Hillary's New Year's Eve

  18. <p>     How will the President-Elect and the First Lady-in-waiting
  19. celebrate the last night of 1992? The same way they have spent
  20. every New Year's Eve since 1981, when Bill and Hillary Clinton
  21. joined fellow rising stars at Hilton Head Island for a
  22. renaissance weekend of high-minded chat and a chance to bask in
  23. one another's glow. Sound like fun? This year a mob of 1,200
  24. pols and aspiring Friends of Bill are clamoring for invitations
  25. to the exclusive camp, where 100 favored families will take part
  26. in seminars that last year ranged from "Our Fragile Planet" to
  27. "Building an Inner Life."

  29. <p>     Trouble from Home
  30. </p>
  31. <p>     The most fearsome weapons confronting U.S. Marines in
  32. Somalia are the 480 Tow antitank missiles and the 75 81-mm
  33. mortars that Washington delivered to the Somali military in the
  34. 1980s. To prevent local warlords and brigands from turning the
  35. arms against the Americans, the Pentagon has quietly dispatched
  36. Special Operations forces to Somalia to track down the weapons
  37. and seize them.
  38. </p>
  39. <p>     The More Things Change
  40. </p>
  41. <p>     Don't tell Windows Catering Co. of Washington that Bill
  42. Clinton's election spells the end of politics as usual. Windows,
  43. a nonunion firm, last month submitted the apparent winning bid
  44. to cater the Inaugural luncheon on Capitol Hill. But then,
  45. Windows says, a labor official accused the company of
  46. misrepresenting itself as a union firm. The Joint Congressional
  47. Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies subsequently reopened the
  48. bidding and awarded the job to a union shop. John Chambers,
  49. executive director of the joint committee, denied that Windows
  50. had ever officially won the deal.

  52. <p>     Such Good Friends
  53. </p>
  54. <p>     If the new Clinton economic team works well together, that
  55. may be because some members already have a trusting
  56. relationship. For years, Goldman Sachs co-chairman ROBERT RUBIN
  57. has personally supervised a blind trust that holds investments
  58. for Texas Senator LLOYD BENTSEN, Clinton's designated Treasury
  59. Secretary. Rubin, who will be Clinton's senior economic adviser,
  60. resigned from Goldman last week to accept the White House
  61. position. Now Bentsen must decide whether to leave the trust
  62. with Goldman or move it to another firm.
  63. </p>
  64. <p>     Nasty Boys, Nasty Time
  65. </p>
  66. <p>     They don't just rob banks, they assault them--firing
  67. wildly, leaping over counters, fondling the women, shooting at
  68. the men. The FBI believes the new bank terrorists are L.A. gang
  69. members who pulled off 193 heists last year and 363 so far this
  70. year. Agents dubbed the first duo they arrested the Nasty Boys,
  71. who are thought to have robbed $800,000 from 28 banks since
  72. October 1991. The pair, Clarence Sanders, 21, and Harold Walden,
  73. 19, were convicted of five of the robberies in November.
  74. Prosecutors and the FBI expect the two to get the maximum
  75. penalty of 75 years apiece when they appear for sentencing next
  76. month.
